The aim of the project is to study what kind of effects organic soil amendments (different wood fiber types produced using industry sidestreams, and biochar types) have on microbes living in agricultural soil and oat roots. The main focus is on impacts on diversity of microbial communities, microbial activity and carbon compounds in soil. Especially, impacts on oat root microbes will be studied. Different research methods to detect changes in soil and root microbial communities and soil carbon stocks will be tested and develop during the project. The aim is to use results in Yasso or other model based simulations. The results of this short-term study will be published also in Finnish, so that information will be more easily available for Finnish farmers.
